The most advance Mobile Cinema Camera app for your devices 2023

The most advance Mobile Cinema Camera app for your devices 2023

The most professional iPhone camera app to date is Filmic Pro v6.

The updated version of Filmic Pro is a significant improvement that includes functionality you could often see in top-tier video cameras. Additionally, a few bothersome glitches have been fixed, and the focus speed and precision have been enhanced. The UI has also been made clearer and faster to use.

What makes Filmic Pro unique?
You have a lot more video format and quality options, as well as superior focus, exposure, and white balance control, with Filmic Pro compared to the default Camera app. It also works nicely with third-party gear.

PROS

Full manual controls for exposure, ISO, shutter speed, focus, and zoom.
Live scene analytics.
Log format support extends dynamic range.
Supports many aspect ratios, frame rates, and bit rates.
Third-party hardware support.

CONS

Some integral features require in-app purchases.
No post-shoot editing.
Hard on battery.

Important characteristics of Version 6

  • By tapping a single button, new, simple-to-use arc sliders for manual controls can be activated.
  • Professional-level input on exposure and focus is provided through analytics overlays.
  • The user interface is simpler and cleaner.
  • Version 6 of Filmic Pro
  • The Filmic Pro display with manual focus and exposure turned on. The exposure slider adjusts between ISO and shutter speed, and the focus and zoom sliders are controlled by the arc sliders.
  • The buttons at the bottom left open the image panel, activate the manual arc sliders, and display analytics overlays, starting from left to right.
  • Toggle between the basic and three-color histogram, graph display, audio levels, and time clock by tapping on the central panel. (It also displays memory and battery utilization.)
  • Settings, playback, and the record button are located in the bottom right of the screen.

Beginning With Filmic Pro
The iPad and iPhone versions of Filmic Pro are both available for $14.99 on the App Store. Although the company's DoubleTake app, which does offer multicam filming, is free, there is no free trial version. Also keep in mind that several of Filmic Pro's more potent capabilities call for separate purchases. There are other Apple Watch apps and a Companion Remote ($9.99). Although there is an Android version, it misses key cutting-edge features like support for log recording. I conducted my testing on the excellent cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 14

Formats and Setting Quality
More than any photo or video program I've ever used, Filmic offers more format possibilities, which is a clear indication of its pro-level ambitions. Eight aspect ratios are available, including the more popular 16:9, 3:2, and 4:3 as well as less usual cinematic ones like 2.76:1 and 2.39:1. Additionally, you may select resolutions ranging from SD to 4K 2160p, but the iPhone's default photo app can also accomplish this. The native iPhone app is only capable of recording 4K at up to 60 frames per second, so changing the frame rate from 24 to 240 for HD is not possible. You can reduce that to one frame every minute with time-lapse options.

Control over bitrate quality is another feature that Filmic offers that the built-in iPhone shooter lacks. The Filmic Extreme quality of the app offers 50Mbps for HD and 100Mbps for 2K–4K. Even the Apple default bitrate offers 33 percent more information than the default Filmic Quality level. It can record log format, which is often only available on professional video cameras(Opens in a new window).

The list of five permissions the app requests when you first launch it after installation includes camera, audio, camera roll, location, and notifications. You don't need to grant the remaining two permissions in order to use the app.

Sharing and export
You can watch recorded clips by clicking the triangle-shaped Play button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Filmic also has a built-in content management system. Instead of using the iPhone's IMG followed by a number for the filenames, this enables you to name clip files properly. With Filmic, you can include scene and take numbers along with your production name. Additionally, you may distribute videos to the usual share-sheet targets or store them to the phone's camera roll.

Formats
Only a small number of frame rates (multiples of the US 30fps standard) and 16:9 widescreen can be captured using the default Camera app. With Filmic Pro, you have a lot more options. There are eight different aspect ratios (screen sizes), ranging from 2.76:1 (ultra wide) to square. In addition to the US NTSC formats, frame rates also include the European broadcast rates of 25 and 50 fps, as well as reduced rates as low as 3 fps (which can be useful in low light). The timelapse intervals can be adjusted in the native Camera app, but they can only be set between 1 and 10 seconds. For improved video quality, you can also select bit rates that are higher than Apple's. Additionally, all of these options (and presets) can be chosen from a single display panel in the new version.

Aspect Ratio for Filmic Pro formats
You can adjust aspect ratio, resolution, and video quality using the Resolution panel.

Focus and exposure
Focus and exposure are controlled by independent "reticles" in Filmic Pro (square).

More useful Features
You cannot directly modify ISO, shutter speed, or focus distance in the default Camera app because it only has one box for these settings.

Tap and hold on a reticle to reveal simple-to-use "arc" sliders for fine manual changes, or press the button next to the color icon. You can pre-program automated focus pulls and zooms, as well as ISO (sensitivity), shutter speed, focus, and zoom level.

Color correction
With a Temperature panel that offers fine control over color temperature and tint in addition to typical presets, color tweaking is much more advanced in this edition.

Log profile for Filmic Pro
There is an extra Tone subpanel on the iPhone where you can choose from natural, dynamic, flat, and log profiles. The last two have more potential for picture correction since they can preserve more highlight and shadow detail.

Temporal Noise Reduction is another function of the iPhone that can be accessible from this Color subpanel.

Lens stabilization
When taking still photos, the normal iPhone camera lens is equivalent to a 29mm wide angle. But due of digital image stabilization, video is substantially narrower. You can use Filmic Pro to get the entire wide-angle field of view by disabling stabilization.

Analytics
This update includes 'analytics' overlays similar to those found on professional video cameras. When your image is overexposed, zebra stripes may appear, and a clipping overlay may alert you when the highlights are burned away. Even better, you can utilize fake color, which displays underexposure as blue, correctly exposed portions as green, and overexposure as red. Edge contrast is used by focus peaking to make it easier to identify the areas of an image that are in focus.

When combined with the arc sliders, analytics performs admirably: focus peaking shows as you adjust the focus, zebra stripes replace them as you change the exposure, and the overlays disappear after you have finished adjusting.

Movie Remote
You can view and manage an iOS device wirelessly from another with the help of this companion software, which is separately sold but is also offered as part of a package with Filmic Pro.

Drawbacks
Though all of Filmic Pro's functions are covered in tutorials on their website, it is more complicated than the built-in Camera app.

Although Version 6 appears to be a vast improvement over its predecessor, it uses more battery and is less stable than the original app. (I've experienced problems with videos freezing when the phone's memory is low.)

Slow and sloppy autofocus was one problem with the older version, but it's much better in the most recent one.
