When your GoPro is far away from you, it's always a good idea to have a way to handle it, which usually means utilizing an extension pole or grip. It's nearly hard to find an action video on the internet that doesn't include shots when the camera is held close to the person filming.

You can get by with a basic selfie stick, but the GoPro Max Grip is more durable and includes a built-in tripod, so you won't have to carry one with you all the time. It works well as a camera grip, allowing you to stretch the camera out from your body without worry of dropping or losing it. It's easy to operate, with a twisting locking mechanism that opens and closes quickly.

Even as a new GoPro user, you'll find that 360° shots are well within your capabilities with a little trial and error. Even said, if you plan to shoot any type of vacation footage in which you want to speak to your audience while also giving them a view of your surroundings, this grip will become a necessary part of your equipment.

A swivel clamp will be your next most handy accessory after your extending grip. It lets you attach your GoPro to anything that provides a good perspective for your shot, such as a backpack, a piece of furniture, a tree branch, or a fence. The only limit to what you can do with this clamp is your imagination (and the laws of physics).

The clamp may also be attached to any decently flat piece of metal, such as a car bonnet or a refrigerator door, thanks to the built-in magnets. If you don't want to end up with your GoPro on the floor, make sure the weight of the camera doesn't draw the clip vertically down.

This clamp genuinely allows you to put up your camera to capture the unusual views that make films or images appear and feel so much more intriguing. One, and this is a huge but, this clamp should not be used for high-speed vehicle footage. The magnets aren't powerful enough to withstand the forces caused by the vehicle's movement through the air. This clamp should only be used for footage where you're not moving faster than a walking pace. Attach a lanyard between the camera and a fixed portion of the vehicle for increased security in case it falls off.

If you're serious about filming in or near water, you'll need a solution to prevent your GoPro from vanishing into the murky depths if you lose your grasp. The number of heartbreaking stories circulating about people who have lost their GoPro in a lake or river should give you pause.

When you go to the beach, the problem gets even worse. It's as if a GoPro-eating monster lurks just offshore, ready to pounce on the unwary. That's why you'll need this floating handgrip with the bright orange cover. It has a wrist strap to keep it from falling away from you if you drop it, in addition to being ultra-visible even in choppy water.

One of my major problems when I first started using my GoPro was running out of battery. It always happened at the worst possible time, usually near the end of the day, when I was in the zone and the light was ideal. You'll want to keep a charger and backup batteries in your suitcase if you travel frequently, especially if it's off the usual path.

This charger comes with an additional battery, but I would recommend purchasing at least one more so that you start the day with three fully charged batteries: one in your camera and two in reserve. However, because there are minor variances between models, you must choose a charger that is compatible with your GoPro's batteries.

The charger works quickly, so depending on how flat your batteries were when you started, you should have them fully charged in around 2-3 hours. The fact that the charger only comes with one extra battery is the only drawback for me. Because there is space on the charger for two batteries at once, I would have loved to have a pair of them in the pack.

To get a sense of how long a battery will last, shoot 4K at 60fps for roughly 70 minutes and 30fps for around 110 minutes. The latter's quality isn't as good as the former, but if you're short on battery life, it might be a worthwhile sacrifice.

Despite the fact that all GoPros are waterproof to a depth of 33 feet (10 meters), making them suitable for snorkeling and most water activities, there are several reasons why a dedicated waterproof housing is a smart idea. An underwater housing is required if you intend to take your GoPro down to scuba diving depths.

The housing can go down to 196 feet depending on whatever model you choose (60m). That's well beyond recreational diving limitations, so any dive you take should keep your camera safe. When you're not diving, the housing provides further damage protection. Even if the housing is fractured or damaged beyond repair, even significant falls and other impacts will usually leave the camera intact.

Placing your GoPro in a protective casing as a new owner protects it from mud, flying stones, and other mishaps that come with capturing interesting footage in the great outdoors. It's worth noting that once your GoPro is placed inside the housing, you might not be able to use all of the touch screen's features. While the camera is in the case, you can access the touch screen via the optional skeleton back door.

Just keep in mind that if you install the skeleton door, your camera's housing will no longer be waterproof, and you'll be limited to 10 meters as if it didn't have one. It's a good strategy for avoiding damage, but not for diving. You can still use the thumbscrew to attach the camera to the housing if you have a helmet or grip mount.

Because GoPro cameras have evolved in size and design throughout time, the waterproof casing has changed as well. Make sure you get the proper case for your GoPro: there are cases for the Hero 5, 6, and 7, Hero 8 Black, and Hero 9/10 Black.

The adaptable SNAP Mount Pro is my go-to option when I want to ensure that my GoPro stays firmly attached no matter how bumpy the ride is. The powerful magnets, by far my favorite attachment, give a very robust mounting point in a variety of scenarios.

The mounts adhere firmly to the metal panels on your automobile and can withstand speeds of up to 75 mph if you wish to shoot road-level footage (120kph). The Snap Mount Pro set includes the mount, two adapters, a quick-release backplate, a rubber mat to protect the paint work on your car, a lanyard, and an anodized aluminum thumbscrew. If you plan on going by car or motorcycle, the mounting plates allow attaching your camera to the vehicle's outside surfaces a simple and safe task. The footage you can get with these is incredible, and it really helps to elevate your videos.

Of course, you're not limited to using a vehicle. Consider strapping your GoPro to your shirt (with the metallic back plate under your shirt and the camera in front) or clamping it firmly to a metal balcony railing for a stunning sunset timelapse. I haven't tried these mounts underwater, but others who have say they work just as well. If you do decide to use them in the sea, though, you should properly rinse them in fresh water to prevent salt corrosion over time.

The fitting folds neatly against the camera body when not in use, allowing you to continue using the camera. It can even be used as a small support for non-metallic flat surfaces. It doesn't get much more versatile than the Snap Mount Pro when it comes to adaptability.

A good portable battery is a necessary if you plan on being away from a power source for more than a day or two. It can charge a wide range of devices, including phones, iPads, headphones, and, of course, your GoPro. It can be used in one of two ways: to charge the GoPro's internal battery, or to plug in the USB charger we discussed previously and charge one or two batteries at the same time.

When camping or traveling far from a wall socket, this greatly expands the amount of time you may be away from standard charging sources. While any power bank would suffice, we recommend the Anker Powercore Essential 20K PD for the moment. You can charge your GoPro batteries multiple times with it and still have enough juice left over to charge your phone.

When using the USB C connector, the PD in this model stands for Power Delivery, which enables faster charging for many phones and other devices that accept this standard. There's also an older-style USB-A port for compatibility with almost any mobile device you're likely to own. The power bank can also be recharged relatively quickly, which is unusual for larger-capacity power banks like this.

From your vehicle or a wall outlet, the power bank may be charged from empty to full in as little as 3-4 hours with the correct kind of charger. The power bank is small and light for its size, and it fits effortlessly into your camera bag or day pack. When I was traveling in parts of Africa and South America where electricity shortages were prevalent, it was a lifeline.

Just keep in mind that you can take it on a flight as hand luggage but not as checked luggage.

Let me emphasize right away that there is no such thing as adequate storage when it comes to recording video. The fact that I always run out of storage at the most inopportune time is without a doubt the most aggravating aspect of using a GoPro for me.

As a result, I strongly advise you to purchase a large-capacity memory card. Get a couple of them. Another issue you'll likely have is that your memory card will fail at some point during its lifespan. Lower-quality memory cards, on average, fail earlier and more frequently than higher-quality cards.

I always buy SANDISK cards since they have a good reputation for quality. They aren't the cheapest, but the added cost is well worth it when you consider the benefits of having a reliable credit card. When your card dies after a long day of recording, trust me, you won't be glad you saved a few bucks!

Storage cards are rated for read/write speed, so choose cards that are quick enough for the work you're asking them to accomplish when you're buying extras. I've discovered that UHS speed class 3 (U3) and video speed class 30 (V30) memory cards produce the greatest results. At the present, 128GB cards are the sweet spot for capacity relative pricing, and you'll need at least two for a full day of filming.

The LCD screen on the back of the camera body, the smaller LCD on the front of the camera body, and the lens itself are all made of glass and are susceptible to nicks and scratches.

You'll be surprised at how easy it is to drop your GoPro or knock it against sharp objects as a new GoPro owner. Your camera will fly off bicycles, cars, motorcycles, and just about any other object you attach it to or balance it on unless you're very careful.

There are several ways to protect your GoPro from damage, but the most effective is to use a screen protector, which does not require the camera to be kept in a case all of the time. As an added bonus, you'll lessen the amount of glare on your screen in bright sunlight.

Three sets of protective H9 tempered glass for your camera are included in this kit. They're made to be sacrificial: when your camera becomes scratched or damaged, you just replace the covering. It's a lot less expensive than getting a new lens or screen!

Along with the glass, you'll receive a few extras to help with the installation process. They're both designed to assist remove any traces of dirt, dust, or oil from whatever you're applying the screen protector to: it's critical to start with a clean surface.

Two soft cleaning cloths, one wet and one dry, degrease and remove any material that can obstruct your view, while the dust removal stickers are ideal for removing any specks that linger afterward.

A couple of minor issues to note: if you have the media mod installed, the large LCD screen protector will not fit because it is slightly too large (about 1/16th of an inch). After installing the protection, you may notice that the touch-screen controls are less sensitive.

Regardless of the slight drawbacks, none of us would consider using our GoPro without screen protection. It's a little price to pay for the security provided.
